Our Artist:
Gabrielle May is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist whose work explores emotion, memory and the layered nature of lived experience. Known for her intuitive process and richly textured compositions, Gabrielle creates abstract works that balance movement and stillness, depth and restraint. Her paintings often draw on personal narratives and the subtle shifts of light, landscape and atmosphere, resulting in pieces that feel both intimate and expansive.

Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, Gabrielle builds her canvases through considered layering, allowing colour and form to emerge organically. Her practice is grounded in a desire to evoke feeling rather than define it, inviting viewers to pause, reflect and connect in their own way. For Gallery in the Sky at Lorimer, her work brings a sense of contemplation and quiet strength to the elevated urban setting.
The Charity:
For this project, Gabrielle’s charity of choice is Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) — an organisation dedicated to empowering people living with spinal cord injury and other complex physical disabilities to live fulfilled and independent lives. SCIA provides advocacy, community programs, peer support and practical services that help individuals navigate the physical, emotional and social challenges that can follow spinal cord injury. Through education, connection and tailored support, they work to remove barriers and create opportunities for greater inclusion and accessibility across Australia. Crema will be donating to Spinal Cord Injuries Australia on Gabrielle’s behalf.

The Inspiration:
“Tides of Wonder” was inspired by Melbourne’s urban and coastal waterfront – from Docklands through to the bayside communities – and its unique ability to create endless cycles of joy and connection. Just like the bay’s tides, wonder returns again and again – new families making memories, fresh footprints in the sand, celebrations lighting up the night sky. I wanted to capture and celebrate how this vibrant stretch provides moments that are both fleeting and constant, personal yet shared. The imagery weaves together coastal banksias with poppies carried in on the breeze of the wider Australian landscape, fireworks bursting over water, and traces left in sand – all reflecting how this place keeps renewing itself with beautiful experiences, how the memories keep washing in with each tide.” – Gabrielle May

The Site:
111 Lorimer is a landmark mixed-use BTR development rising at Docklands, just minutes from Melbourne’s CBD. Positioned along the evolving Yarra riverfront corridor, the site sits at the intersection of city convenience and waterfront calm, offering uninterrupted views across Melbourne’s skyline and surrounds. Designed in collaboration with developers Monno and leading architecture practice Rothelowman, the tower will deliver 391 thoughtfully designed residences alongside approximately 2,000sqm of commercial space and an activated ground-floor retail precinct. Residents will have access to a curated suite of amenities, including a gym, dining room, lounge spaces and landscaped gardens, creating a vertical community that balances urban energy with considered design. As Docklands continues to transform, Lorimer represents the next chapter in refined inner-city living.
About Gallery in the Sky:
The Gallery in the Sky program is a charitable initiative established by Crema Constructions in 2015. Every year, Crema Constructions uses its high-profile construction sites to provide a platform for budding Australian artists to showcase their work while supporting a charity of their choice. Crema Constructions sees this as a unique opportunity to give back to the people of Melbourne, a city we are lucky to call home.
Crema is proud to deliver this project and see Gallery in the Sky continue high above the city – where art meets purpose, and where messages of hope can travel far.
