A Low-Carbon Residential Community Designed for Wellbeing
The Canopy is a 20-storey residential development in Melbourne’s inner north, delivering a collection of 1, 2 and 3-bedroom residences alongside thoughtfully integrated communal spaces. Designed around the principles of biophilic design, the project creates a stronger connection between residents, nature and the built environment through natural light, landscape integration and shared amenity.
The Vision
The ambition for The Canopy was to create more than an apartment building. The project brings together architecture, landscape and sustainability to deliver a residential community that promotes wellbeing, connection and everyday liveability.
Communal spaces—including a landscaped podium, rooftop gardens, dining areas, barbecues, fire pits and spa—extend the living experience beyond each residence, creating spaces for residents to gather, relax and recharge.
The Delivery
Crema was engaged to deliver a highly detailed and architecturally significant project that balanced ambitious design with construction precision.
Working closely with the wider consultant and delivery team, the project involved:
- Construction of a 20-storey residential development.
- Delivery of an industrial-inspired façade reflecting the site’s former Dunlop factory heritage.
- Integration of a central green spine and extensive landscaping throughout the building.
- Coordination of complex structural, architectural, landscape and building services.
- Delivery of premium communal amenities across podium and rooftop levels.
Every element required careful coordination to maintain the architectural vision while ensuring buildability, quality and long-term performance.
The Outcome
The completed project successfully combines industrial character with contemporary residential living.
Native planting, generous communal spaces and integrated landscape soften the building’s architectural expression while supporting a healthier and more connected lifestyle for residents.
The Canopy demonstrates how thoughtful construction, sustainable design and collaborative delivery can create residential communities that contribute positively to Melbourne’s evolving urban landscape.
